A Whitman Sampler, of sorts
A distillation of a journal published a couple decades ago, this enjoyable collection offers brief essays from a number of writers. Each piece presents a distinct, if sometimes quirky, entry way into the world of L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E poetry. Prepare to have your mind warped. Prepare to laugh, and prepare to confront some dense, but rewarding prose.

This selection of essays and poetry from the first three volumes of L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E magazine discusses a “spectrum of writing that places its attention primarily on language and ways of making meaning, that takes for granted neither vocabulary, grammar, process, shape, syntax, program, nor subject matter.” (Bernstein and Andrews) The various writers shun labels, slogans, or catch-phrases; their exploration of the ways that meanings and values are revealed through the written word is intended to open the field of poetic activity, not close it.

The common thread of these essays is the multitude and scope of words’ referential powers—denotative, connotative, and associational; and studying these powers is ultimately a social and political activity as well as an aesthetic one.

Fascinating
Bernstein is one of the great poets in the world today and this is a brilliant insight into the poetics of the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E "school". If you have any serious interest in poetry and poetics, you should read this book.

Interesting
This book introduces body language from the point of view of business executives. The authors specialize in the use of body language for business and politics. I found the illustrations and photos that accompany the text to be very funny and appropriate. This is not a very scholarly book, so if you're looking for a very serious and academic book about the study of body language, then this isn't the volume you're looking for, but if you'd just like an introduction to body language from a practical point of view, then this is a perfect book to read. In addition, it is very easy and entertaining to read, so I can recommend this to anyone.

If you sell anything, including your ideas --- study this book!
This is a fascinating book! What I liked most were the many illustrations demonstrating the authors' points throughout the book. Read the text though--there is so much more to this book. The author's sense of humor, though a little dry, added entertainment to an already enlightening read. I especially liked the courtship section. It is amazing that women send signals an average of 5 times before the men they are interested in respond. It just shows you how dense we men are. I found it unsettling that if you are interested in another woman at a party, the woman you are with will pick up your signal is a New York minute. And, if another woman starts flirting with you from across a room, the woman you are with will send recognizable body language to the other female: "hands off, he's mine--you're looking at trouble."After reading this book, I guess I will never go into another meeting without subconsciously, or consciously, trying to recall the lessons in this book. I hope...

Yay! A toy that intrigues the baby without driving the parent nuts.
My 10 month old likes high stimulus, so she seems to get bored with her toys quickly and doesn't think much of toys that don't DO something. This piano has a lot going on and so far it's been enough to keep her entertained better than any other toy.Primarily I like its design. The 'composer' function doesn't just play one song quickly, repeatedly and loudly as most piano toys with some kind of 'demo' function do. When the baby hits a key, it plays one phrase. The next time a key is pressed gets another musical phrase. It's pleasant to listen to, you aren't left with one short tune running through your head and there's seven different melodies. In short, it seems like someone put some thought into what would make a piano toy fun and interesting to play with. It doesn't feel like it's been dumbed down on the assumption that parents don't care and babies don't know the difference.

My 7 month old son loves this piano!!
This is a great interactive toy for babies who love music.....Especially when they are learning to sit up on their own and good for tummy time too. It lights up and has 3 different play modes, sounds, and languages. It's not too loud, holds thier attention span, teaches them to push the buttons to get it to play, and is small so it can go to Grandma's for a weekend. My son loves the little spinner with the beads too. One thing you should know is, if your child is strong or plays rough and is active as mine,(he is only 7 months old and a big boy!) the piano is hard plastic with some weight to it and well, you get the idea!

Great toy with one design flaw
This is a fun little toy that my 6-month old son enjoys playing with. As another reviewer mentioned, one of the great things about this piano is how varied the melodies are. Not only does it play classical pieces but your child can compose his/her own music as well, which means mom and dad don't have to hear the same melody over and over and over... big plus! The one down-side is that the speaker is on the bottom of the toy, which means that if your child doesn't hold the piano on his/her lap while playing with it the sounds is very muffled. My son still likes to play with it - muffled sounds and all - but I can't help marveling that the designers put the speaker in such an unfavorable location. Einstein would blush to know that such an obvious design flaw was incorporated into a product with his name on it!

Kindle vs. Nook (updated November 2011)
UPDATE NOVEMBER 2011:My review is now over a year old, as is the "Kindle Keyboard" as Amazon calls it now. There are newer models: the basic, cheapie Kindle and the Kindle Touch, and of course the Kindle Fire quasi-tablet.Each of these models is an excellent choice. Whichever one is right for you just depends on your preferences. The 3 e-ink Kindles are Kindle Keyboard (this one), Kindle Touch (the newest "flagship" model), and the basic Kindle. All 3 of them have EXACTLY THE SAME 6" DISPLAY, with the same sharp typeface and high contrast that reads like ink on paper with no eyestrain. The Kindle Keyboard is the oldest of these models, and I got one of the first ones when they came out in August 2010.I still absolutely LOVE my Kindle Keyboard and use it almost every day. I have read dozens of books on it. I like the newer models, they have some neat features, but the experience of reading a book on them is no better or worse than on...

A hesistant buyer rejoices on his choice
I researched the purchase of a Kindle for a long time. I couldn't decide whether or not it was worth buying a dedicated e-reader. Boy am I glad I made this purchase. The downside to Amazon's online selling of Kindle 3 is that the customers don't get to see it in person. It is much better in person. This may sound stupid, but when I got my new Kindle, I thought there was a stuck-on overlay on the screen containing a diagram of the unit's buttons, etc. I actually tried to peel it off. Doh! The e-ink on this unit is THAT good. I didn't realize that I was staring at the actual display. I also didn't realize that no power is required until the display changes. (thus the great battery life) I do a lot of reading, but was facing the prospect of reading less or buying large type books because of my variable and deteriorating eyesight. The new Kindle has been a godsend. Now, I can decide the size of type I need depending on my level of fatigue among other things. The weight and ergonomics are...

Worth the money. Not perfect, but very very good for start to finish novels in good light
The Kindle is my first e-ink reader. I own an iPad, an iPhone, and have owned a Windows-based phone in the past that I used as an ereader. My overall impression of the device is good. The good:I'd honestly rather read linear (read from page one to the end, one page at a time) fiction from it than a book, because I can't always get comfortable with a book. Hardcovers are sometimes a bit heavy, and paperbacks don't always lie open easily. The Kindle is incredibly light and thin. I can hold it in one hand easily. The page turn buttons are conveniently located. Page-turns aren't instant, but they're probably quicker than turning a physical page in a printed book (there are just a lot more page-turns unless you choose a small font). The contrast is better than other ereaders I've seen. There is zero eye strain in good light. My eyesight isn't the greatest and I like being able to increase the font size and read without glasses. I love being able to...

I'm still speechless... This will be a classic!
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first in the trilogy of crime novels written by Swedish journalist Stieg Larsson. Larsson wrote them during his spare time, as a form of amusement. However, the novels were not published until after Larsson's untimely death in Nov 2004. The author never had the opportunity to enjoy the critical and the commercial success his books eventually earned. In 2008 Larssen became the second best selling author on the planet. Now, on to the story:Mikael Blomkvist is a journalist, convicted, unjustly he believes, of libel against a powerful industrialist. As Blomkvist awaits the commencement of his sentence, he is hired by a scion of a wealthy family to investigate the disappearance of the man's bellowed niece 40 years earlier. Everyone, initially including Blomkvist, believes the case is hopeless. Unexpectedly though, help comes in form of "the girl with the dragon tattoo", Lisbeth Salander. The mysterious woman clearly has a severe past:...

Embrace the subtitles: see part 1 of Larsson's Millennium Trilogy in its intended tongue
I'm a fervent and early fan of Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy. I would have flown to another city to watch this film if I had to. Luckily, I live in one of the country's best cities for art house cinema: Dallas. Yes, contrary to the expected stereotypes I always have to bat down when I tell out-of-town friends this fact: Dallas has a tremendous art house cinema culture. And, as testament to that, we got "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" very early. What a thrill for us.I am not going to claim that the movie is better than the book. What makes the books so compelling are the monster-deep dives Larsson takes into varied areas like investigative journalism, corruption, hacking, mafia, governmental affairs, mafia-government connections, intelligence agencies, detectives..and a host of others. What makes the first book spin is its dual axes of investigative journalism and hacking, personified respectively by Larsson's two protagonists, Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth...

"I'm doing what every man dreams of. I take what I want."
Over 2.5 million people in Scandinavia have seen this film, making it the first film in Scandinavian history ever to break the $100 million mark for European ticket sales, and US fans of Stieg Larsson's bestseller of the same name may propel the film to similar records here. The R-rated film tells the story of Mikael Blomqvist, a disgraced journalist for Sweden's Millenium magazine who accepts an invitation from an elderly businessman to investigate the disappearance of his niece Harriet, thirty-seven years ago. No trace of her has ever turned up, and the old man fears that a member of his family may have murdered her. While Blomquist is gathering information and storing it on his computer, he realizes that someone is hacking into his files. That person is Lizbeth Salander, a disturbed young woman living under the guardianship of the state, having spent time in a mental institution. Working together, they discover information about the Vanger family's Nazi connections and their...

However, B&N is including language parameter in url address – and this makes it relatively easy to find books in your language. Here’s the web address to the list of German language books in the Nook Store. Use a specific web address There are a lot of Nook ebooks in other languages, most of them are distributed to B&N via Smashwords , a great platform with self-published ebooks from around the world. So far they were hard to find in B&N, as there was (and there still is) no option to find titles by language.

I’ve spoken to people at the Expo buying from Cinebook and some have dumped their Marvel/DC buying habit to buy Cinebook (one young man with his wife last year told me “My wife has put a limit on what I can spend -but these books are fantastic. But what Cinebook publishes -you can check their online catalogue or download a pdf from their site (see blog roll and there is a category to the right were you can find all the Cinebooks reviewed)- is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to... ) and those Euro comickers buy English language comics and Small Press titles so they have a broad appetite comics-wise.   They feel that if they buy a French language book they are wasting money because it will mean nothing to them. Comics , in London, stock European BD.   If there is another UK comic shop stocking European titles let me know. No, this appeal is aimed at those comickers out there who buy nothing but Marvel, DC or the odd Independent English language comic.   They couldn’t see the people coming into their stores buying the books or most of their customers only wanted Marvel or DC.   Special offer with a spinner rack. I heard every conceivable silly and/or ridiculous reason from comic shop owners why they could not stock books published by Cinebook The 9th Art.

A developing baby needs proper nutrition and feeding your baby healthy and safe food is very important. They are used like a wrap that will hold the baby nice and tight mimicking the womb and allowing baby to sleep without being woken up by moving arms and legs. Our final recommendation is the Lamaze -  Garden Bug Hand and Foot Finder, These little socks and wrist rattles help teach baby where their hands and feet are and also promotes hand and eye coordination, the perfect gift for a new little bundle of... This stage is very overwhelming for any new parent, so a gift that could help organize all the appointments and medical records that come with having a new baby, is great gift. Walking Wings can help any parent make teaching your baby how to walk easy and painless. So our first recommendation is Walking Wings , this great product attaches around the babies upper body, has two long straps to hold and keeps mom or dad walking upright so there is not so much strain on their backs. So our final recommendation is the Beaba Babycook and baby cook books.
